Back in 1981, a group of gemstone dealers and friends tossed around ideas to help promote their product. Caesar Abi-Habib, founder and owner of Kaiser Gems (KG), recalls this gathering. A meeting was held at the now defunct Santa Rita Hotel in Tucson, AZ. Warren Matthews wanted dealers to come for the September show at the Holiday Inn Broadway (now the Radisson in downtown Tucson). Out of this meeting, the idea of creating an association to promote colored gemstones in the American market grew to become the American Gem Trade Association. MORE
