By nature, we are comfortable with routines. We like to put a plan in place and have things follow that plan, especially if that is how "it has always been done." Flux in Mong Hsu ruby started to appear in the early 1990s. While some rubies had just a minor trace of flux, others had enough flux to cause some early misidentifications by untrained observers calling these synthetic rubies. Over the years the industry slowly began to accept flux residue as a byproduct of the heating process. The laboratories created a rating system to quantify the amount of flux present in these rubies. Over time, perhaps due to prevalence of flux healed ruby on the market or possibly due to other less accepted treatments showing up, the industry has become more accepting of flux. This is not an endorsement of that fact, but rather a statement of the industry attitude. MORE
