I had the pleasure of once again attending the AGTA Spectrum Awards and I must say the pieces were even more beautiful and enchanting than last year's (if that's even possible). As with every year, we had to choose three pieces as our favorites to vote as Editor's Favorite. If you thought I had a difficult time last year, this time was amazingly worse and when you see the pieces, you'll understand why. On Wednesday, October 3, Oscar Heyman officially celebrated its 100th anniversary with a cocktail and dinner for employees, family and closest friends at the Harmonie Club in New York City. Founded in 1912, by brothers Nathan, Oscar and Harry Heyman, the company is now in its third generation and has been making exquisite hand-crafted fine jewelry ever since. MORE
Gemfields' Emerald Ring Scoops US Gem Prize

A ring made using emeralds from Gemfields has scooped second prize at the 29th American Gem Trade Assocation's Spectrum Awards.
The competition was judged between October 20 to 21 in New York, with judges including Jennifer Heebner of JCK Magazine, fine jewellery buyer Abby Huhtanen from Bergdorf Goodman and lapidarist Kiwon Jang choosing the winning pieces. MORE
Naomi Sarna's Tanzanite Masterpiece wins First Place at the AGTA Spectrum Awards™ 2013

Naomi Sarna, one of the world’s finest gemstone carvers and jewelry designers, won big at the 2013 AGTA (American Gem Trade Association) Spectrum Awards winning a total of four awards. First and second places were in Carving, while first place was also in the Phenomenal, and Men's categories alike. Her magnificent first place Tanzanite Carving was a result of Ms Sarna having traveled to Tanzania in March of 2012 to the TanzaniteOne mining operation to select the special piece of rough tanzanite required to create the largest-ever carved tanzanite, weighing a total of 725 carats. Judges Named for 3rd Int'l Pearl Design Competition

The Cultured Pearl Association of America is pleased to announce the panel of judges selected for the 2013 International Pearl Design Competition. In its third year, the IPDC, which celebrates artists' expressions of pearl jewelry, drew entries from over 13 countries. Official announcement of the winners takes place on November 1st. MORE

Rio Tinto's 2012 Argyle Pink Diamonds Tender, the most exclusive diamond sale in the world, has demonstrated strong global appeal and delivered an exceptional result for its iconic gems.
Bids for this year's Tender collection of 56 single pink diamonds, including two red diamonds and an additional 19 lots of blue diamonds from Rio Tinto's Argyle Diamond Mine in Western Australia, closed on October 15th. The collection was keenly contested with the final results demonstrating continued strong price appreciation. MORE
