The Women's Jewelry Association has announced the winners of the 2012-2013 DIVA Design Competition, complete with an additional tier of awards presented in collaboration with the annual American Gem Trade Association Spectrum Design Awards. First display of Medusa emerald at Natural History Museum

A one-of-a-kind emerald, nicknamed the Medusa, goes on show at the Natural History Museum today in its first public display in Europe.
The Medusa emerald has unusually large and strongly coloured crystals and should delight visitors to the Museum's Vault gallery, its new home for the next 12 months.
The emerald was uncovered from the Kagem mine in Zambia in 2008 by Gemfields, the gemstone mining company who are loaning it to the Museum. MORE

This stone is only the 32nd largest stone according to experts, but its splendid pink color makes it incredibly exceptional and rare. It is valued at about $1.5 million. If it were to be cut, it would make for many highly precious diamonds that could be used to create priceless jewels.
