Exclusive: The Engaging Colin Cowie Talks about Platinum Bridal Jewelry
Instore Magazine - AGTA Member
I first met Colin Cowie last week at a jewelry media preview in New York City, hosted by Platinum Guild International USA (PGI-USA). We'd spoken briefly on the phone about ten years ago when I was researching an article, but I didn't bother mentioning that to Mr. Cowie, as I knew he wouldn't remember. After all, he's a busy guy-party planner to the stars, author of 11 books and, when it comes to designing elegant and interesting weddings, in particular, one of the most recognized experts in the world. Art Deco pieces to lead at Christie's London
National Jeweler
London - Jewels from the 1920s, characterized by simple, geometric shapes and an abundance of pearls, are the highlight of the Christie's London upcoming Important Jewels sale, scheduled for June 5. Christie’s said the sale includes an "extraordinary array" of Art Deco earrings, pendants, diamonds and pearls. Jewelry produced in the 1920s and 1930s--the decades during which Art Deco flourished--is extremely varied in design and was influenced both by contemporary artistic movement and the machine age, hence the use of geometric shapes: circles, rectangles, triangles and trapeze forms. JCK Magazine - AGTA Member
For the third year, Warren Buffett stepped behind the counter Sunday at AGTA Member Borsheims, the Berkshire Hathaway-owned store, and sold jewelry. He works only one day a year for a few hours at the upscale store, but Berkshire CEO and Chairman Buffett "brings an enthusiasm to the job that can't be matched," said Adrienne Fay, Borsheims' director of marketing and advertising. Red-Carpet Jewels Go 'Green' in Cannes
New York Times
Paris- Stars mounting the steps at Cannes, sheathed in mermaid dresses, jewels sparkling like spindrift, are symbolic of the Mediterranean movie festival. For the ritual event this year, a new siren song will be calling to turn the red-carpet jewelry green. On Friday, Chopard, the sculptor of the Palme d'Or, or Golden Palm, trophy for the festival winners, plans to announce a groundbreaking partnership with the Alliance for Responsible Mining, ARM, an organization that works to repair environments damaged by gold mining and helps small-scale miners sell their metal through a fair-trade certification program. Great Gatsby brings jewelry opulence back
Yael Designs - AGTA Member
In the film, much of the jewelry was provided by Tiffany & Co. One of the sure to be iconic pieces is the Savoy Headpiece worn by Carey Mulligan as she brings Daisy Buchanan to life. This piece features a detachable brooch and consists of freshwater pearls and brilliant diamonds in platinum setting. We would give anything to rock this headpiece out on the town! MORE

Personal Safety in the Risky Jewelry Business
Luxury Brand Group
Just as jewelry retailers were thought to have been investing in enough security precautions to protect themselves, an unfortunate amount of recent jewelry crime sprees shook the industry this year. On April 11, 2013 gunmen invaded an apartment in Meriden, Conn., kidnapped two jewelry store employees, and subsequently stole more than $4 million worth of merchandise from their store. Another robbery occurred April 3, 2013 when a couple from Suffolk County, NY, were arrested and charged in connection with a string of jewelry store robberies across Long Island, NY. MORE

Seven steps to staying safe on social media sites
USA Today
Keep your personal information private: It is always better to omit information about yourself rather than include it on your social media. Just because there is an option to include your current city doesn't mean you have to. Instead, opt to include a generalized version of that information or no information at all. For example, San Francisco Bay Area is a general option for Burlingame, CA. It still gives some information, but makes it a little more difficult to figure out your zip code or home address. MORE
