Import Duty to Be Waived at 54th Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair

The 54th edition of the Bangkok Gems & Jewelry Fair, taking place Sept. 9–13, will be duty-free for the first time. Thailand's Department of International Trade Promotion is waiving the 20 percent import tax on gems and jewelry sold at the fair, including those from foreign exhibitors. Ebola Virus Hurts Sierra Leone Diamond Production
Diamond mines in Sierra Leone have cut back on production as the spread of the Ebola virus in the region has left artisanal miners afraid to work the alluvial mines in the country's east. Sierra Leone will miss the government's goal of exporting $200 million in diamonds in 2014 because of the Ebola outbreak, Sierra Leone's Deputy Minister of Mineral Resources, Abdul Ignosis, told Reuters.
