110-Carat Yellow Diamond Sells for a Record $12.3 Million
The Sun-Drop Diamond, considered the largest known pear-shaped fancy vivid yellow diamond in the world, sold for $12.3 million Tuesday at Sotheby's Sale of Magnificent Jewels in Geneva. The auction house said the price paid for the 110.03-carat gem set a world auction record for yellow diamonds. MORE

A pendant created by Tacoma's LeRoy Jewelers has won a national recognition from the American Gem Trade Association. The Spectrum Award from the AGTA is what LeRoy Jewelers owner Steph Farber calls the "Academy Award of the jewelry world." LeRoy's pendant, created from tourmalinated quartz, rainbow moonstone and platinum, won the award in the Classic Platinum Design - Innovation category. Saratoga Springs jeweler's works earn first-place honors
SARATOGA SPRINGS - Local jewelry designer Dennis deJonghe has been cutting and crafting his way into the international jewelry design scene.
Last month, deJonghe, who owns deJonghe Original Jewelry at 470 Broadway, racked up two first-place awards at the 28th annual 2012 American Gem Trade Association Spectrum Awards in New York City.

Social Media Marketing Grows Among Small Businesses
Small businesses are becoming more comfortable with social media marketing and are using it more when engaging with customers, according to survey data from marketing specialist Constant Contact. The Fall 2011 Attitudes and Outlook Survey also reports that small businesses still rely heavily on in-person interactions and events in addition to email marketing and Website marketing to reach their customers, while mobile adoption remains slow.
